Let’s understand more about PMP® - the certification, and the exam.

Conferred by the Project Management Institute (PMI®), the world's leading authority on the subject, the PMP® certification acknowledges your mastery in leading and directing projects across diverse industries. It's a validation of your ability to:

Exam blueprint: Conquering the challenge

The revamped PMP® exam in 2021 assesses your knowledge across three key domains:

People Domain: Leading with Heart and Mind (42% of Exam)

Think of the People domain as the engine that drives project success. Here, you'll hone your skills in:

  • Leadership: Mastering the art of motivating, inspiring, and empowering your team.

  • Team Management: Building cohesive units, fostering collaboration, and resolving conflict effectively.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Proactively managing stakeholder expectations, identifying their needs, and ensuring their satisfaction.

  • Communication: Delivering clear, concise, and timely information across all levels.

  • Negotiation: Striking advantageous deals while maintaining positive relationships.

  • Conflict Resolution: Addressing disagreements constructively and finding win-win solutions.

With 14 tasks outlined in the ECO, the People domain emphasizes the critical role of human interaction in successful project execution.

Process Domain: The project maestro (50% of Exam)

The Process domain is the backbone of project management, encompassing the methodologies and frameworks that transform ideas into reality. Here, you'll dive deep into:

  • Project Initiation: Defining the project scope, objectives, and feasibility.

  • Project Planning: Decomposing the project into manageable tasks, estimating resources, and creating a comprehensive schedule.

  • Project Execution: Putting the plan into action, managing resources, and monitoring progress.

  • Project Monitoring and Control: Measuring performance against baselines, identifying deviations, and implementing corrective actions.

  • Project Closure: Formally concluding the project, documenting lessons learned, and evaluating its success.

With 17 tasks covered in the ECO, the Process domain equips you with the tools and knowledge to navigate every stage of a project and ensure smooth execution.

Business Environment Domain: Seeing the Bigger Picture (8% of Exam)

While the People and Process domains focus on the internal workings of a project, the Business Environment domain broadens your perspective. Here, you'll explore:

  • Strategic Alignment: Ensuring projects contribute to organizational goals and objectives.

  • Organizational Context: Understanding the company culture, structure, and governance mechanisms.

  • Risk Management: Proactively identifying, analyzing, and mitigating potential threats to the project.

  • Compliance and Standards: Adhering to relevant regulations and industry best practices.

With 4 tasks outlined in the ECO, the Business Environment domain instills an awareness of the external factors that can impact project success and equips you to adapt effectively.

The exam comprises 180 multiple-choice questions, administered in a computer-based format. You'll have four hours to complete it, and expected passing requires a score of 70% or above. (PMI® does not release the data for passing percentage, but it is expected to be in the range of 65%-75%)
